In Vedic astrology, the head is governed by very specific planets. When those planets are afflicted, the head produces pain even when there is no underlying organic disease. This does not mean medical treatment is wrong. It means the trigger sits at a level the MRI cannot scan.

    If you have Mars in the 1st house, Mars in the 6th house, or Mars conjunct the ascendant lord, you are prone to this kind of headache.

    The Mars headache is also worse in the heat of the day, especially between noon and 4 p.m. when Mars's energy peaks. Many migraine patients report afternoon attacks specifically. That is not coincidence. That is Mars's daily clock.

    Type 2: The Sun Headache

    The Sun-driven headache sits in the forehead and the centre of the head. It feels like pressure. There is no throbbing. Just a dull, constant weight behind the eyes.

    The Sun rules ego, authority, and the recognition we crave at work. People with Sun afflicted in the 1st house, or Sun conjunct Saturn or Rahu, often get this exact headache pattern. It worsens during work-related conflicts, before important presentations, or after being unfairly treated by a senior.

    You will notice this headache often shows up on Sunday evenings before a tough Monday morning, or before a difficult meeting where authority is at stake.

    The Sun headache is sometimes called "the responsibility headache" because it tracks the weight a person is carrying.

    What helps:

  • Reduce caffeine intake during high-pressure weeks. Caffeine inflames the Sun.
  • Walk barefoot on grass for 10 minutes in the morning. The earth grounds the Sun's pressure on the head.
  • Offer water to the rising sun every Sunday morning while chanting "Om Suryaya Namah" 21 times. This is a traditional Sun pacification ritual that calms the planetary energy over weeks.
  • Wear cotton, not synthetic fabric, on days you have the headache. Synthetic fabrics overheat the head's energy field.
  • If your pain is in the forehead and tied to work pressure, Sun is the planet to address.

    Type 3: The Rahu Headache

    This one is the strangest. The Rahu headache feels disorienting. The head feels foggy. There may be visual disturbances, strange smells, or auras before the pain hits. The pain itself is often one-sided and migrating, moving from one part of the head to another within the same attack.

    What helps:

  • Reduce screen time, especially in the two hours before sleep. Screens overload Rahu's nervous system.
  • Avoid eating at irregular hours. Rahu thrives on chaotic schedules. Fixed eating times calm it.
  • Chant the Rahu mantra "Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namah" 18 times before sleep for 41 days. This calms the nodal energy over weeks.
  • Donate black sesame seeds, mustard oil, and a black blanket to a poor person on Saturday once a year. This is a traditional Rahu remedy that works because it externalises the chaotic energy through giving.
  • Avoid sleeping with the head pointing north. North-pointing sleep agitates Rahu in many sensitive people.
  • If your headaches feel weird, foggy, or shape-shifting, Rahu is most likely the planet.

    Type 4: The Moon Headache

    The Moon-driven headache moves with the lunar cycle. It often shows up around full moon and new moon dates. In women, it can also synchronise with the menstrual cycle because both are Moon-governed rhythms.

    The pain is dull, heavy, and tied to emotion. Crying often relieves it. Sleep helps significantly. Bright sunlight and dehydration make it worse.

    People with Moon in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house, or with a Moon-Saturn conjunction, often have this pattern. They are also more prone to depression-linked headaches and tension headaches that arise after suppressed feelings.

    What helps:

  • Drink at least 3 litres of water on full moon and new moon days.
  • Avoid arguments and emotional confrontations during these lunar phases. Emotional events two days before a full moon can trigger a 24-hour headache.
  • Place a silver glass of water near your bed at night during full moon week. Drink it first thing in the morning. The water absorbs Moon energy and stabilises emotional rhythms.
  • Eat white-coloured foods on Mondays. Rice, milk, white pumpkin, coconut. These align with Moon's natural energy.
  • Cry when you need to. Suppressed emotions in Moon-afflicted people often store as pain at the back of the head.
  • If your headaches arrive predictably with the moon or your cycle, the Moon is the trigger.

    What to Do First

    If you have chronic headaches, please make sure your medical workup is complete. MRI, blood tests, eye exam, ENT exam, neurology consult. Astrology is the layer underneath, not the layer on top of basic medicine.

    Once medical causes are ruled out, the next step is identifying which of the four planet patterns matches your headache type. Sometimes more than one applies. A patient might have a Mars-Sun combination, where they get Mars-type sudden attacks alongside Sun-type forehead pressure during work weeks.

    Once the planet pattern is clear, the remedies above can be applied for at least 41 days each. Forty-one days is the traditional minimum for any planetary remedy to show measurable effect. People who try a remedy for one week and quit usually feel nothing. Those who commit for six weeks often notice a clear shift.

    The Underrated Daily Ritual

    If I had to recommend one daily practice for any chronic headache patient, it would be this.

    Sit quietly for 10 minutes every morning before sunrise. Close your eyes. Breathe slowly through the left nostril (close the right one with your thumb). Feel cool air entering your head.
