Why Your Diet Worked Last Year But Not This Year
This is one of those astrology topics that makes people go "wait, seriously?" And then they check it against their own experience and get a little freaked out.
So here's the scenario. You spent all of last year eating clean, going to the gym four times a week, doing everything right. The weight dropped steadily. You felt amazing. Then January hits, and you're doing the exact same routine — same calories, same workouts — and the scale won't move. Your trainer says you've hit a plateau. Your nutritionist adjusts your macros. Nothing. Three months later, the weight starts coming off again, for no apparent reason.
Your dietician will blame cortisol. Or water retention. Or metabolic adaptation. And maybe all of those play a role, sure. But in my practice, I've tracked this pattern across enough clients to know there's a bigger force at work: the tug-of-war between Jupiter and Saturn on your physical body.
Jupiter: The Planet Who Wants Everything Bigger
Jupiter is the great benefic. Everyone loves Jupiter. He brings opportunities, wealth, good teachers, blessings, all that wonderful stuff. But there's a side of Guru graha that nobody wants to talk about — he also makes things bigger. Physically bigger.
In Ayurveda, Jupiter literally governs your lipid tissues. The fat in your body. His astrological M.O. is expansion. When Jupiter is transiting over your Ascendant (your physical body) or strongly aspecting it, your body goes into full absorption mode. You eat a roti and gain 200 grams. You eat a salad and somehow still feel bloated. It's not your imagination — your body's cosmic setting during this transit is literally "take in everything and store it."
I remember one client — a fitness instructor, mind you — who gained 8 kilos in six months despite her job literally being exercise. She was devastated. Thought something was medically wrong. Thyroid came back normal. Everything normal. When I checked her chart, Jupiter was parked right on her Ascendant. She wasn't sick, she was cosmically in an expansion phase. Once Jupiter moved on, the weight came off without her changing anything.
The worst part? If Jupiter is also sitting in or aspecting your 2nd house (the house of food and eating), you develop this wild craving for rich, sweet, indulgent foods. Mithai. Cheese. That extra gulab jamun after already being full. This isn't a lack of willpower — it's Jupiter whispering in your 2nd house. Fighting Jupiter with a strict 1200-calorie diet during this transit is like trying to swim upstream in a flooding river. You'll exhaust yourself and probably end up binge-eating worse.
