Both were equally intelligent and hardworking. Student A took the exam on March 15th.

Student B took it on April 22nd. Student B scored in the top 2%.

Student B checked the horoscope dates and scheduled her exam when Mercury was strong and Jupiter was favorable. Student A just picked the earliest available date.
